Vertigo TOO

“The Haole”, the new concoction by Mitchell ‘Kai’ Lum – Vertigo TOO’s ultra-talented cocktail artisan who recently won the Bacardi Legacy Cocktail Competition 2016 Thailand, is ready to be showcased in the final round of the world’s most elite cocktail contest slated to take place in San Francisco this April, vying with other sensational Bacardi-based beverages from 36 selected promising bartenders around the globe.

Mitchell ‘Kai’ Lum

With multiple international bartending accolades under his belt, Kai entered the prestigious competition in Thailand with pride and confidence, exhibiting his exceptional skills in presenting his signature cocktail that embodies the tropical island of Hawaii. Made from prime pineapple mixed with vibrancy of lemon juice, peppery ginger ale perfectly blended in with Bacardi Superior, “The Haole” at the end came out on top.

Born and raised in Hawaii where Kai obtained a double Bachelors of Business Administration in International Business and Marketing from the Shidler College, University of Hawaii at Manoa, Kai’s bartending fame and professionalism grew from his natural raw talent and great passion for the fine art of mixology. With the unwavering dedication to his work as well as crowning achievements in beverage management and bartending services for established bars like Mishmosh in Wellington New Zealand and Double Tree Hilton Phuket, Kai has landed himself a resident mixologist at Vertigo TOO, a brand-new cosmopolitan cocktail bar on the 60th floor of Banyan Tree Bangkok.

The Haole

“The Haole”, amongst a wide choice of unique drinks, has been enjoyed by guests visiting Vertigo TOO since its inception. “As the summer heats up in Thailand, the refreshing Haole that resonates with Hawaii’s golden sandy beach in a cocktail glass will without doubt become a luscious and fragrant favorite with our guests” said Ms. Nopparat Aumpa, GM of Banyan Tree Bangkok. “I am thrilled that Kai, as the national winner, will represent Thailand at this year’s Global Bacardi Legacy Cocktail Competition and that he will be globally celebrated as a prominent mixologist and the truly perfect ambassador of our Banyan Tree Bangkok’s Vertigo TOO”  the far-sighted GM added.

Since its grand opening in February, Vertigo TOO has offered sophisticated cocktails and cross-cultural food with live music and stunning views of Bangkok’s cityscape to over hundreds of guests.

Vertigo TOO

Boasting magnificent views of the iconic Chao Praya river, Vertigo TOO is the jewel in the crown of the downtown restaurants. Serving excellent mixed drinks alongside a verities of food, it’s perfect for everything from relaxed sundowners to late-night partying.

Kai, in the hope of adding “The Haole” to the list of legacy cocktails that stand the test of time – like the Daiquiri or Mojito, will also lead the brand’s initiative to further educate the mixology, bar and restaurant community as to the qualities and characteristics of both his exclusive craft of cocktails in general and the superiority of Vertigo TOO in particular.
