It’s a lavender season in Hokkaido, Japan! Once the lavender is in its full bloom, we know it’s time for us to indulge in sweet temptations at Up and Above Bar on the 24th floor of The Okura Prestige Bangkok. Inspired by the sweet scent and purple color of the lavender flower, the hotel’s pastry chefs have created the Lavender Delight Afternoon Tea featuring sweet and savory bites, accompanied by a cup of coffee from Illy or freshly brewed premium tea from Mariage Frères and Saro.
Beautifully displayed and succulently flavored, the afternoon tea delights here are meticulously crafted to please your eye and delight your palate. Start with the Lavender Macarons, a mouthful of crisp, soft, and chewy bliss with an image of Mount Fuji and lavender flower, before moving on to the Blueberry Lavender Chocolate, a lavender infused chocolate bar with berries and nuts, and the Lavender and Blueberry Tartlet, a bite-size pastry crust filled with lavender custard and fresh blueberries. Then, bewitch your senses with the Quark Cheese Cake, consists of tempting layers of crushed cookies, fresh cheese flavored with a touch of lavender, and a garnish of charcoal sponge cake.


The afternoon affair continues with the Cream Daifuku, a Japanese confection of a soft pastel purple mochi stuffed with lavender cream and sweetened red bean paste and crowned with a chocolate leaf, followed by the Wild Berry Jam and Cream Roll, a stylishly spiraled cake rolls filled with delicate berry jam and cream and topped with a chocolate petal. For something a little smooth, opt for the Blueberry Custard, a slightly fudgy custard garnished with mulberry, served in a petite ceramic bowl, and don’t forget to try the buttery and moist Black Current and Lavender Scones, which are well complemented with clotted cream and fruity jam.




Last but not least, there are also some inventive savory treats on offer, including the White Asparagus Crème Brulee with Lemon Zest, a sinfully seductive fare with a rich flavor and a hint of lemon and the fabulously delightful Smoked Salmon and Cucumber Sandwich on Pumpernickel which exhibits an exciting flavor and texture combinations—as well as the excellent Crab Remoulade Vol-au-vent with Caviar and the mouthwatering Fresh Goats Cheese with Tapenade, Red Pepper, and Olive Croute.




Apart from the Lavender Delight Afternoon Tea, Up and Above Bar also comes up with the Lavender & Summer Cocktails as a tribute to the lavender season and the beginning of summer. Highlights include the Purple Lavender (B475++), a refreshing concoction of local Sangsom rum, grape juice, lime juice, and lavender syrup, topped with lavender foam and finished with snowflake sugar a garnish, and the Butterfly Cooler (B250++), a family-friendly mix of fresh yuzu juice, blueberry jam, butterfly pea syrup, and soda water, served with an ice bowl filled with strawberry caviars on top.
